 Question about float plans
One of the members at KBF is developing a high tech float plan tool. He's looking for advice, so take a look here and tell me what's missing.

 Re: Question about float plans
When Otter and Yetavon floated the broad I printed off google earth and highlighted our float plan with an estimated time of me calling to say I was headed home.
I always tell her what lakes and where I plan to go on them. google earth as well. Lake Blalock is big enough to require this. at least with my limited stamina paddling as of yet.

 Re: Question about float plans
I use google earth too... I have my usual haunts printed out and if they differ form the last time I use a new one and highlight where I plan to go... Low tech but it works and I feel better and the wife seems to fel better about "knowing" where I am... Be safe folks... Especially in the cold water we got now.. I was on the Wando today and the river was about 43degrees, the flats were much warmer at 45-46 degrees... Either one I would have been dead rather quickly if I had been stuck in the water for any length of time... Be safe and make sure people know where you are...

 Re: Question about float plans
any of you guys ever spent the night looking for a lost kayaker?...well, I have - this looks awesome and pretty much covers the whole deal...Wow. One thing I really push is reflective material on everything possible -PFD's, hats, kayaks - even on the bottom...we work with the CG helos out of Hunter, we all have a lot of difficulty spotting a dark green yak at night in the best of conditions. Open water is not your friend and you can end up anywhere with the tides and currents. I think it says something for our fishing yakkers to say I don't recall ever going after a fishing yak... it's always the unprepared novices....no drinking, water, no signalling devices - dressed for the summer when it's 50 degrees...
