South Carolina Kayak Fishing believes in SAFETY FIRST! Always have a float plan filed with someone who knows where you are going and when you plan on returning. Make sure you have checked the weather, tides, and water conditions for the area you are planning to explore or fish. At all times ensure that you are in compliance with U.S. Coast Guard and State rules and regulations for paddle vessels in your area.
In South Carolina, non-motorized vessels such as wind surfers and watercraft (canoes, kayak, etc.) propelled only by human power with oars, paddles or similar devices, are not required to be registered or titled. However, regulations do require that each occupant of the vessel have a type I, II, III, or V personal floatation device (PFD). You are also required to have a whistle or efficient sound producing device onboard. If you are going to be out on the water at night or in low-light conditions you are also required to have a light that is bright enough so that others can see you.
The waterways, rivers, and oceans can be a dangerous place. Please make sure that you take the proper precautions to ensure you have a safe adventure and obey the navigational rules of the water.
